Winter break will be here before you know it and we want to make sure that your apartment stays safe and secure while you are gone.
Do I let my landlord know I’m going away for winter break?
Yes, please let us know if you are planning on going home for an extended period of time over break so we can check in on your apartment. It’s much better to be proactive and let your landlord know before you leave just in case of an issue.
Are there other things I should do before I leave for winter break?
In order to come home to the least amount of problems after winter break we recommend you do the following:
- Make sure all windows and doors are locked and secure
- Open kitchen and bathroom sink cabinets to allow warm air movement to the pipes
- Hold any mail and make sure to send your packages to whatever address you’ll be over break so they don’t sit outside your apartment all break.
- Set thermostat to heat at 60 degrees or higher
- Empty refrigerator of any perishable food
- Close all blinds/curtains
- Take valuables home with you
If the temperature drops below freezing, we will go into unoccupied units periodically over break to make sure everything is running properly. This may vary with different rental companies so be sure
